This year’s tournament certainly lived up to expectations. There were several surprises and an unexpected champion. Jerry Billups answered some critics with his first win however against a formidable 10 year old opponent. Jerry would then go on to beat Lavelle Blackwell in the second round using an unstoppable ground game to control the clock. The defending champ Big Dukes who was quoted saying “I will never trail during this tournament”, found his tournament life in jeopardy while facing former champ Andre Russell in the second round falling behind 23 – 35 early in the first half. Big Dukes would battle back to earn an unconvincing win 2nd round win. Big Dukes luck would soon run out as he faced Ivor in the 3rd round starting with the first offensive play when Dukes would throw an interception. Big Dukes went downhill from there with a series of mishaps and careless mistakes would lead to the eventual 21 – 0 ruling of Big Dukes by Ivor early in the second round. Last year’s runner-up Dan Bray wouldn’t have much better luck when he would face off against good friend Jake Solomon in the second round much to his dismay. Maybe he could foresee the potential challenges his offense would face against the defense of Jake. Dan would go on to lose a hard fight battle against the eventual runner-up Jake. The oldest person to ever compete in the Madden Tournament Series would surprise opponents all the way to the Final Four. Pop’s first final four game would be against Jake who told Pop’s “you are the best old person I have ever seen play Madden”. This would mean Jake was ready for Pop’s and the Cleveland Browns. Pop’s fought hard but the Cowboy’s passing attack proved to be too much for the Cleveland Browns. Ivor would enter his final game on an extreme high after putting Big Dukes away before the game started. That high would quickly be brought back down to Earth once Ken’s rushing attack began to control the game. The Eagles front seven could not contend with the one two punch from Taylor and Jones-Drew. Ken would go on to beat Jake in a hard fought championship game dominated once again by the unstoppable ground attack of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
